And I Wonder

Heaven’s multi-colored
upside-down smile
arcs across the sky,
and I wonder.
Spiced chicken’s simmering smell
rides on the warm light
of late afternoon,
and I wonder.
Strings, strung in tension,
struck, move the air
in soft waving,
and I wonder.
Fingers ringed
around with gold and
a promise intermingle,
and I wonder.
Bread (torn into pieces)
and wrung-out grapes
whet my tongue,
and I wonder.
